Getting the best nutrition for your toddler this winter

As those cold and rainy winter days roll in we all want to make sure that our little ones are getting the best nutrition possible. Did you know that 91% of Irish toddlers are not getting the recommended amount of vitamin D and 23% of one year olds are lacking in iron1. Not good news given how important both iron and vitamin D are to the wellbeing of our toddlers.

Vitamin D is a vital nutrient for our toddlers. It plays a key role in supporting healthy bone growth.

Iron on the other hand is needed for normal brain development .

The best dietary sources of vitamin D are oily fish (e.g. salmon, sardines, mackerel), eggs, and milks and cereals fortified with vitamin D.

Iron-rich foods include lean red meat, chicken, eggs and green leafy vegetables.

Irish scientific research has proven that growing up milk helps to increase intakes of key nutrients like iron and vitamin D in the diets of toddlers aged 1-2 years.2

Just 2 beakers* a day, as part of a healthy diet, helps give your toddler key nutrients they need.

Wishing you and your little ones a happy and healthy Christmas 2014 from all at Cow and Gate Growing Up Milk
