      Purpose of Fundraising
      Respondents were asked to indicate what percentage of the funds they raised went towards the following:

      School Materials – eg. Library Books, Art Materials, Computer Software
      School Equipment – e.g.Computers, Sports Equipment
      School Maintenance- e.g. Painting, floor coverings, plumbing
      School Utilities – e.g. heating, electricity, waste disposal
      School Capital Projects - e.g. Prefabs, Extension, Pitches, New School

      School Material50% of respondents used an average of 40% of their funds for school materials
      School Equipment55% of respondents used part of their funds for equipment for their school
      School Maintenance20% of respondents used part of their funds (in some cases up to 100% of funds raised) for School Maintenance
      School Utilities12% of respondents used between 10 – 50% of funds raised for School Utilities
      School Capital Projects10% of respondents were engaged in fundraising for major capital projects.



      Table 1 below provides examples of School Capital & Maintenance Projects for which Parents Association’s were fundraising:

      Respondents were also asked to indicate what ‘Other’ ways did they spend their funds apart from the School Materials, Equipment etc set out above.

    Size of Parents Association Committee
      The size of the Parents Association Committee ranges for 3 members up to 25 members .
      55% of respondents had between 3 – 10 members on their Committee while further 30% had between 11 - 16 members on their Committee.

      Parents Contribution to Fundraising

      A separate survey carried out by Schooldays.ie in September 2007 amongst parents on School costs shows that parents expect to pay out between €50 to €200 each year towards fundraising activities in schools alongside family voluntary
