Schools, families, workplaces and communities called on to support National Game Playing Week by hosting a gaming party

Padraig Harrington swapped his clubs for a Twister Mat and joined with his wife Caroline and sons Paddy and Ciaran to call on schools, communities, workplaces and families to support the annual National Game Playing Week by hosting a gaming party to raise funds for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

National Game Playing Week (Friday, 26th October - Sunday 4th November) is all about getting your favourite game, a bunch of friends, having some fun and raising some money for Make-A-Wish. This year is the 10th anniversary of National Game Playing Week and Hasbro, who support the initiative, are hoping this year will see even more people getting involved.

According to Hasbro’s Anne Dermody: “Schools have embraced National Game Playing Week over the past 9 years and as it’s the 10th anniversary this year we’ve decided to make it even bigger. We’re calling on people of all ages to get their favourite game be it Monopoly, Jenga, Bop It or Twister , invite their friends, colleagues and family over, make a donation and have a party! We’re really excited to be working with the Make-A-Wish Foundation as they make so many dreams come true”.

Susan O’Dwyer, Chief Executive of the Make-a-Wish Foundation, says “Since its inception in 1992, Make-A-Wish in Ireland has granted wishes for over 1,300 brave children.A wish granted is true magic for the child providing respite from their normal routines of hospitals, doctors and treatment. To continue with our work we rely overwhelmingly on the kindness of people which is why we are delighted to be linking up with Hasbro for their annual National Game Playing Week.

“We want to continue to grant as many wishes as possible, so we’re encouraging every family, school, workplace or community group in the country to get together, pull out a game, have some fun and help raise as much money as possible for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.”
