School Tours to the Killybegs Maritime & Heritage Centre

We are particularly pleased to welcome school tours both primary and secondary. Please check with us before arriving as our facilities are limited, groups of more than 50 may require special arrangements.


Would your group like to meet some real Killybegs fishermen or some of the people who work in boat building, marine engineering or net making? Special exhibitions or talks can be arranged if sufficient notice is given.

The tour includes an informative video on the fishing and hand-knotted carpets in our audio visual room and then a hands on experience of hand-knotting on a loom.
Enjoy a hands-on experience in a life sized fishing trawler wheelhouse fully fitted with navigational equipment, maps and charts.

On display is longest hand-knotting loom in the world, where many of the world famous hand-made Donegal Carpets are made, including our Presidents residence, ‘Aras an Uachtarain’, and can be seen on the website visual tour of the residence.


A special information pack will be given to each teacher on the tour.
Coffee and gift shop on the premises, on sale are Organic Seaweed products, fishing videos, hand-hand crafts and souvenirs.
