Speech Delivery
What is it?
This is a course designed to work with students in the area of ‘Delivery of Speeches/Public Speaking’. It includes the following:
Ø Brainstorming a topic
Ø Design and structure of a speech/presentation
Ø Research of material
Ø Delivery of a speech/presentation
Main Objective
To equip students with the skills for effective speech and communications in order to prepare them for third level education and the workforce. The goal is to help build confidence in each student when speaking within or to a group and also on a one-to-one setting.
Assessment/Evaluation
Once all the theoretical aspects of the course are taught to students, they will then deliver the various speeches listed below:
I. Informative Speech
II. Persuasive Speech
III. Demonstration Speech
They will then be assessed by the following means:
ü Preparation
ü Content
ü Physical Delivery (Visual, Vocal and Language)
ü Relationship to Audience
ü Personal Qualities
Course Duration
6 weeks
2 hours per week (preferably together)
Maximum 10 students per class
Course Tutor
Sandra Sheerin works as an Independent Consultant within the corporate sector as well as within third level education delivering ‘Presentation Skills/Public Speaking’ courses. She is certified by the IITD (Irish Institute of Training and Development) and holds a B.A. in Human Resource Management as well as being qualified by the CIPD.
