A new study has revealed that some secondary school pupils are so attached to their mobile phones they sleep with them under their pillow.

According to the results of the latest CensusAtSchool Phase 11 questionnaire, 30 per cent of students like to have their phone right beside them as they sleep.

Females were more likely to keep their mobiles under their pillow, with 35 per cent admitting to this practice compared with 23 per cent of males.

The research also revealed that the most popular time to get out of bed each morning is between 07:30 and 08:00.

When it comes to eating breakfast, 80 per cent of youngsters said they do this at home before leaving for school, while just over ten per cent claimed they do not bother with breakfast.

Cereal was found to be the most popular option with 53 per cent indicating they choose this over toast, a cooked breakfast or fruit.
