So the Christmas break is – finally – over and we are all gradually trying to get back into the morning routine/chaos of getting everyone out of the house on time.
I’m sure many parents felt a familiar feeling of dread over the weekend as uniforms were washed and ironed, lunch boxes and school bags were retrieved from under the bed (or wherever they were thrown after the last day of school) and alarms were set for the early morning call.
I spent most mornings of my son’s first term at school rushing around in a complete frenzy – barking orders at people (including the cat) to do this, that and the other. So much so, that by the time we left the house we were practically not speaking to each other. So, for me, this new school term isn’t a case of going back to the old routine; it is the perfect opportunity to establish a new one.
This, unfortunately, means that have to set the alarm even earlier (which has been a bit of a shock to the system), but by giving myself an extra 30 minutes before anyone else is awake, means that I can make the packed lunches, have a cup of tea and a quick shower, and get myself dressed. It may sound simple, but just that small window of ‘me time’ means that I’m in a much more positive state of mind by the time I have to go and wake the slumbering masses.
Have you decided to do anything differently to make your mornings less stressful?
