Optometrists urge Children’s Eye Test during Bright Eyes week

text re imageOptometrists across the country are encouraging parents to take their children for an eye test next week as part of the ‘Bright Eyes’ campaign to promote eye health for children.
During Bright Eyes week (October 17-22) eye tests will be available in many optometrists across the country free of charge and for a nominal cost at others.

Parents can take their child to their local participating Optometrist for the ‘6 step’ vision test; which has been specially developed by a team of optometrists specialising in children’s eyecare. Approximately 230 independent Optometrists who are participating will have the Bright Eyes posters on display.

Optometrists will also be visiting schools to talk to parents, teachers and pupils about the importance of healthy eye sight and answer any questions about children’s eye care. The promotion is being organised by the Association of Optometrists Ireland (AOI) which has encouraged its members to make the screening available for as nominal a price as possible.

The screening is for any child of school-going age, primary or second level, with a particular focus on early diagnosis of younger children. Parents are encouraged to contact their local participating Independent Optometrist for further details. More information at www.optometrists.ie. Many of the participating Optometrists are members of the Eyezone group of Independent Opticians. More at www.eyezone.ie
