A new pilot programme from the government's Digital Hub has shown how up-skilling students in digital technologies can help improve school performance.
Silicon Republic reports how 20 pupils from Dublin took part in the after-school initiative Future Creators, which saw them tutored in film, gaming, photography, app development and audio and digital embroidery.
Individuals were trained to use software tools including XCode, Final Cut Pro, Javascript, Comic Life and Photoshop.
Dr Stephen Brennan, chief strategy officer at the Digital Hub, described how the project increased levels of commitment from students who may otherwise have left education early.
The expert claimed the programme is a great example of how computer science and digital teaching can be incorporated into syllabuses.
Dr Brennan added that it is "vital" technology skills shortages in Ireland are addressed, with the Future Creators initiative providing students with "educational opportunities that allow them to develop skills that make them highly employable".
