The necessity of earning the right qualifications has been highlighted by new research.
Entitled
Ireland's Vital Signs 2013 - Extended Edition, the study revealed people in Ireland believe education to be the most important aspect of their lives.
Carried out by the Community Foundation for Ireland - which was established in 2000 with the aim of assisting charities - the research saw education top the poll ahead of 118 other possible options.
More than 600 people took part in the survey, which aimed to gauge public perception of Ireland's current strengths and weaknesses.
While the wellbeing of children and environmental concerns also placed highly in the list, religion was voted the aspect of modern life of the least importance to people in Ireland.
A summary of the results stated: "VitalSigns tell us that in terms of overall satisfaction with life in Ireland we score a C+ - not a bad score, but clearly no room for complacency."
