Students sitting Leaving and Junior Certificate exams this year have been urged not to put their health on the back burner.
Writing for the Herald, Simone Kelly noted that like the other organs of the body, the brain needs to be nurtured and fed.
"Not the usual student junk you normally feed it, but healthy nutritious grub and at regular intervals. Here is what you should be eating for optimum concentration," she commented.
Eating breakfast is a must and students should opt for wholegrain cereal or porridge, which will help to sustain them until lunch.
When it comes to lunch, she advised pupils to avoid stodgy food and go for a healthy pasta salad or a wrap, as they will need energy to get through afternoon exams.
Ms Kelly's other tips include exercising regularly, eating at regular intervals and snacking on healthy fruit, nuts and popcorn.
Writing recently for the Irish Times, Brian Mooney said exam students should keep their stress levels in check by taking enough study breaks.
