By the end of October, 202 post-primary schools in 14 counties will have access to 100Mbit/s broadband, it has been announced.
HEAnet, the national education and research network, confirmed it is on track to meet the target.
The organisation's latest round of procurement for the Schools 100Mbit/s Programme saw it secure bids to provide 14 post-primary schools with the high-speed broadband.
These schools are based in Sligo, Cavan, Laois, Donegal, Mayo, Clare, Leitrim, Westmeath, Monaghan, Louth, Galway, Longford, Offaly and Roscommon.
As well as broadband connectivity, HEAnet will also provide centralised content filtering, managed school router, anti-virus, centralised firewalling and associated services.
Since 2010, 78 schools have been connected to 100Mbit/s speeds under the first pilot phase of the programme.
HEAnet is Ireland's National Education and Research Network and works to provide internet access to Ireland's 200,000 students and staff at third-level and 800,000
teachers and pupils at first and second level.
