The Irish government has outlined its infrastructure spending commitments for the country's education sector.
As part of its six-year 39.43 billion euros capital investment programme, schools have been highlighted as one of the areas it is committed to improving.
Consequently, 4.2 billion euros is to be spent on educational establishments, with more than three billion euros of this going on making upgrades and extensions to primary and
secondary schools in Ireland, reports the Irish Times.
Meanwhile, around 650 million euros is to be invested in facilities at third level institutions.
Another area the government has committed to spending on is improving transport links, with 2.5 billion euros being set aside for the Dart underground project.
Earlier this month, minister for education Mary Coughlan said that reform of the Irish education sector will be an ongoing process.
She made the statement as she announced the launch of an induction support scheme for newly-qualified primary school
teachers.
