Irish students are rallying against the government's plans to reduce spending on the
education system.
Around 5,000 college pupils plan to protest in Cork today (December 1st 2010), the RTE reports.
The University College Cork (UCC) and Cork Institute of Technology's students have organised the march, which is also taking place in response to the proposed introduction of fees.
This comes after the government revealed that people leaving
secondary school could face a 2,000 euro contribution charge to attend college, with the UCC Students' Union deputy president Daithi Linnane saying this fee could deter students from further studies.
Plans to cut government finances for third-level education are also being protested against.
In addition to this, students from colleges in Dublin are staging a meeting on the grounds of the Department of Education in the city in an attempt to discuss the future of the education system in the country, the news provider reported.
