A record 76,000 people have applied to the CAO this year, with points increases likely across a range of popular courses. This number is likely to grow as late applications will be accepted up to May 1st. The increase represents a growth of 2% in applications with a similar increase last year and the year before.
Figures released by the CAO show that applications for architecture and engineering are both up again by 13% with law increasing by almost 6%. Nursing applications are also on the increase (11%) for the first time in a number of years.
Courses seeing a fall in the numbers applying include agriculture, horticulture and veterinary courses.
Applicants are entitled to change their course preferences when the CAO's 'change of mind' facility opens on May 5th.
