Majority of parents 'think school teachers do well'

The majority of parents think Irish school kids are in good hands, according to research.

A survey by IReach Market Research surveyed 1,000 adults about their attitudes to 12 different professions, reports the Irish Telegraph.

The survey found that 75 per cent of respondents did not think that teaching was an easy job, with 87 per cent believing the vocation had a high or medium level of complexity.

The results also proved that 80 per cent of respondents thought teachers played an important role in society.

Of the 12 professions covered by the survey, only nursing received a higher satisfaction level among respondents, than teaching.

The survey, which was commissioned by the Teaching Council, will come as a boost for an often-beleaguered profession.

Earlier this week, government minister for social and family affairs, Mary Hanafin, stated that the implementation of the relationship and sexuality programme in Irish schools needed to improve.

I have asked many of my friends, acquaintances & some strangers if they have ever been asked to participate in an educational survey, all of these people have children in mainstream education, all of them answered no! all of them do not think teachers do well but that they do well under the circumstances!!! What is mean't by this is that they are not properly trained for the job/not teaching what they are trained for, classes are over crowded, there are insufficient assistant teachers, teachers and school heads/principles do not tend to work as a team!
This means that your survey is rubbish!
