Young People in 29 Community Music Initiatives to Benefit

The Minister for Education and Skills, Richard Bruton TD yesterday announced the 29 successful organisations (listed below) that will receive a grant under the newly established Non-mainstream Music Education Bursary Scheme 2017.

The grant, which is funded by the Department of Education and Skills, will provide assistance to 29 community initiatives that work with children and young people across the country.

The grant will help support the many individuals, organisations and groups that are providing access for young people and children to varied music education experiences without any significant funding. Minister Bruton said that the establishment of the small music bursary scheme will help smaller scale music education and community initiatives and organisations to nurture our many talented young musicians.

The total budget available in 2017 of €100,000.

Minister Bruton said:

“I am delighted to announce that 29 community initiatives will be supported by my Department through this Music Bursary Scheme. It will provide important support and help nurture our talented young musicians across the country.

“Developing musical education is a great way to help children and young people to learn a new skill, gain confidence in themselves, and have a lot of fun while doing it. My Department supports music education through a number of initiatives including music on the curriculum, Music Generation and now through this bursary scheme. I hope that this initiative will help to further shape the landscape of music education in Ireland and provide support and encouragement for future talent.”
