Minister Bruton announces organisations to share in €50,000 Non-mainstream Music Education Bursary Scheme

The Minister for Education and Skills, Richard Bruton, TD, announced the 25 successful grant recipients that have been awarded funding under the newly established Non-mainstream Music Education Bursary Scheme 2016.

The Department of Education and Skills introduced the €50,000 bursary scheme in February of this year, to provide a cash grant to support established, smaller-scale, non-mainstream music initiatives with limited access to other forms of public funding.

A Committee for Non-mainstream Department of Education and Skills funded Music Education was established, and received over 70 applications.

St. Agnes Community Centre for Music and Arts, Crumlin and Dublin Institute of Technology Ballymun Music Programme were each awarded a grant of €10,000. 23 other bursary recipients were awarded grants of between €2,500 and €1,000.

Meeting with representatives of the two top award recipients today, Minister Bruton said “I am delighted to announce the recipients of this bursary which will help to further cultivate the talent of our young musicians, and wish to acknowledge the dedication of the organisations and volunteers who work with them.”
