This weekend, soccer clubs across the country will take part in the first ‘Silent Sideline Weekend’. The initiative has been organised by a group of concerned parents who were exasperated by the behaviour of some parent spectators on the sidelines who continuously shout at and sometimes verbally abuse the kids during matches.
During ’Silent Sideline Weekend’ applause is still allowed, however all spoken communication, whether cajoling or scathing, will be strictly forbidden. About 70 clubs have signed up to the initiative, the first time a Silent Weekend has been attempted across a whole country.
