New school to open in September

Posted by SchoolDays Newshound on 16/07/2012. New school to open in September Tags: Primary School News

A new Irish Medium Primary School is to open its doors in Cookstown on September 3rd, in time for the start of the school year.

The Gaelscoil Eoghain education establishment is still in the construction phase, but is expected to be completed in August, the Mid-Ulster Mail reports.

It is thought the school will build on the foundation of the Irish Medium pre-school Naiscoil Eoghain that opened in the area in 2008.

Acting principal Caitriona Ui Dhoibhlin said the unveiling of the building will help to boost education in Cookstown, with children taught Irish language, culture and heritage.

The first group of four-year-olds to become pupils at the school will be taught in both Irish and English in a bid to encourage bilingualism and bilateralism.

Elsewhere, the European Investment Bank recently announced plans to provide a €100 million loan to the Department of Education and Skills' capital investment programme.

Wow! They actually have Irish language schools in Northern Ireland. I don't know why but this has caught me off guard, never would have thought they would have those type of schools, seems to be quite a few, in the north.
I know there is a German school in Dublin, but it's only 1.
This is interesting to say the least. Thanks guys!
