Parents searching for the best
primary or
secondary schools to send their children to in the near future may wish to note advice offered by one expert.
According to Dr Helen Wright, president of the Girls' Schools Association in the UK, the achievement of pupils attending single-
sex places of education tends to be higher than their counterparts at mixed schools.
"Academically, single-sex schools top the
league tables despite the fact that co-ed schools are in the majority," she explained.
Dr Wright stated that although this obviously does not mean that youngsters who go to mixed institutions always underachieve in comparison to same-sex school attendees, but added that it is clear that "single-sex schools punch well above their weight when it comes to public examination results".
Meanwhile, the Irish Times reported recently that five new primary schools are to be opened in the Dublin area over the next two years.
