Encouraging youngsters to eat their greens and fresh fruit can be a difficult task for parents. However, one expert claims this problem can be tackled with a little creativity.
Ian Marber, a nutritionist and founder of the Food Doctor, said that presenting fruit in a way that children find visually appealing "makes sense".
"I think children like fruit but when it's a choice between confectionery, chocolate or fruit, kids tend to choose the sugared alternatives," he commented.
Giving youngsters purees and compotes is a good way to get more fruit into them. However, another option is to mix chunks of apples and bananas into yoghurts, Mr Marber added.
The Irish Independent reported last month that more than 300,000 children across Ireland are currently classed as overweight.
Furthermore, it was noted that an increasing number of youngsters are beginning to develop conditions such as type two diabetes.
