Parents of
secondary school pupils have received tips on how to get their children interested in education.
Social worker and psychotherapist John Sharry has given his advice to mothers and fathers in an article for the Irish Times.
He stated that "parents have a responsibility to support their children's education" and suggested a number of ways they can get reluctant pupils more interested in their school work.
Dr Sharry recommended finding out why youngsters might be exhibiting grievances towards education, as they may need learning support.
He went on to suggest setting up a study routine so they have a designated time of the day when they concentrate on work.
Parents were then advised to take an interest in their teenagers'
homework and go over what they have done once they have finished.
Alternatively, guardians may consider sending their children to same-sex schools after Dr Helen Wright, president of the Girls' Schools Association in the UK, stated that they top the league tables.
