A new schools project has been announced that aims to encourage children to invite their friends and family to visit Ireland.
Minister Leo Varadkar and Ruairi Quinn launched the Primary Schools Letter Writing Initiative as part of the Gathering Ireland 2013 tourism initiative.
Children will be asked to outline the special activities taking place in their communities in a letter or email sent to their loved ones living abroad and invite them to join in the celebrations.
Minister for Education and Skills Ruairi Quinn said: "The Gathering Ireland's letter writing project will encourage creativity, ICT and research skills and literacy which are all integral parts of our primary curriculum."
He added that it is a "fun" way to get children involved in Gathering Ireland 2013 and will provide them with the opportunity to research local history, geography, science and local people.
Primary schools are set to receive their information packs - which include posters and flyers - later this week.
