Students throughout the country who failed to secure a college place in the first round of admissions last month will find out today (September 1st) if they have been successful in the second round.
The Irish Examiner reports the Central Applications Office (CAO) is set to deliver good news to more than 3,300 people who will be offered a place.
However, it stated that with more than half of the 1,300 courses already full, many students may still miss out and suggested that, with around 44,000 spaces taken in the first round, the number who will be successful in the second is expected to be low.
Subjects that are at or near capacity for level 8 degrees include pharmacy, law, science and business, the newspaper noted.
Almost 60 per cent of all courses administered by the CAO will not take any new entrants.
This year, the popularity of some subjects has seen the points required for entry rise, with University College Dublin demanding a total of 455 points for its science courses.

The careersportal.ie website updated their site this afternoon and now all courses listed display the latest cut-off points taking account of round 2 offers. You need to go to the specific course you are interested in their site. The following link is an example of one course with the points displayed on the right hand side.
