A Fine Gael TD has helped a local primary school boost its
teaching resources through funding provided from his own salary.
The Irish Independent reports how Brendan Griffin donated half of his €92,000 wage to Fybough National School in South Kerry.
As a result, the rural school will be able to replace its third
teacher, who was made redundant earlier this year following the pupil/teacher ratio announcement in November's Budget.
An unsuccessful appeal to the Department of Education meant the school's two remaining teachers faced coping with 49 pupils come the start of the new school year in September.
The school's principal Angela Prendergast praised Mr Griffin's kind act, describing the funding as "absolutely fantastic".
"We were so downhearted after losing the appeal ... then Brendan came up with this proposal," Ms Prendergast stated.
Mr Griffin previously worked as a teacher before being elected to the Kerry Council in 2009 and becoming a full-time public representative.

This is a very generous gesture but how can a TD be earning so much money and this does not include the generous expenses that they get.
