The
Teachers' Union of Ireland (TUI) has called on the country's government to promote the link between education and training by creating a new department.
The organisation believes that there is an artificial divide separating the two similar institutions and wants the government to form a Department of Education and Training to reflect the connection.
According to RTE News, TUI is disappointed that additional training places were created last year and given to FAS, the employment authority, when the further education sector could have also benefitted.
Annette Dolan, representative for TUI, suggested in an Oireachtas committee yesterday (February 25th) that the
education system in Ireland is losing assistant principals through early retirement and these places are not being filled.
TUI is a progressive teachers' union which represents education professionals working in vocational schools, community colleges, community and comprehensive schools, institutes of technology, further education and other specialist areas.
