Advice has been given to teachers who have been affected by the Department of Education's recent announcement that the payment of allowances has been suspended.
The ASTI and the TUI have written to their members to advise how to cover situations arising in the short-term due to the suspension of the allowances.
Members have been advised to operate the Supervision and Substitution (S and S) payments scheme rotas as they have been applied up to now.
In addition, members were advised that 90 minutes of S and S is the maximum they can be required to do in one week and they should not fill any gap that arises in a school's S and S arrangements, unless they receive recompense.
Meanwhile, new appointees to Posts of Responsibility have been advised to accept the new position but not to assume the duties until they receive a guarantee of payment of the appropriate allowance.
The Department of Education advises that the suspension of payments will continue until a review is carried out by the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform.
