Posted by Schooldays Newshound, on 14/07/2015. Young boy critical after swimming accident in Youghal

A four year old boy has been left fighting for his life after an incident in a swimming pool in Youghal yesterday afternoon.

It is understood that the boy got into some difficulty while swimming and was unconscious as he was pulled from the pool by the lifeguards.

The child was rushed to Cork University Hospital by helicopter, along with the doctor who was called to the scene following the accident. He has since been moved to Temple Street Children's Hospital in Dublin.

Most recent reports confirm that the boy is still in critical condition. Gardai are investigating.

The boy was holidaying in Youghal with his family at the time of the incident, which occured in the swimming pool of the hotel where they were staying.

There were over 50 reports of accidental drownings in Ireland last year, according to Irish Water Safety. Of these numbers, six were aged 14 and under.
