Hi all

I have been offered a job bringing a little one of 5 to school (shes n my daughters class). She will be dropped to me at 7.30 and will be in school until 1.40 when I will collect her and mind her until 6. The Mum will supply her food and I will give her some lunch. I am not qualified but have my own kids. Non smoker, child proofed home etc. Any suggestions as to what to charge? Dublin area. Thanks!

HiThere

Havent been on this before so here goes.

I have a pre and aftershool minder but I am charge way to much. I will wxplain.
Minder takes DD from 7.50-7.55 and dropped DD at school at 8.50. then picks her up at 1.30 and minds her until 4pm. Three days wed, thurs, fri and the toher week is mon, tues, wed, thursd. This is the current set up 7€phr. but I pay her enven though she isnt minding DD during school hrs. I want to change this but I am aftrid that we will fall out. The minder is very good and has minded DD since 6mths old.

I feel that its only fair to pay for the minding but not during school hrs so this is a guildline.

Normal minding would be €5 per hour, but if you have to drop & collect you could charge a little more for during school term if you have to use your car. Are you going to be minding her during school holidays days off etc. If so, then I would charge a daily rate of about €45.

Cathburk - I think you need to discuss this with your childminder, its not fair to be charged for when the child is not there during school hours. No problem with paying that rate when they are on hols. Does you minder have to drive her to school? Maybe pay a little extra towards petrol costs etc. You need to discuss this with your minder and come to some new agreement.

I do after-school care and full-time care. For afterschool without mornings I charged 80 a wk. My rate is between 6.50 and 5 an hr depending on the times and amount of hours they were being dropped.
If I was to do the morning drop and collect in the afternoon I would expect to be paid for the hours the child is in school but only if I was responsible for collecing the child if they were to become sickduring school hours etc. Afterall they are taking up a full time place. However I would come up with a discounted rate and this would be the same then for the days where the child was on school holidays. 7 euro an hour seems steep. 5 may be more fair? Sometimes its easier to negoiate a regular weekly rate that doesnt change even on bank holidays etc. That way the childminder feels they are benefiting from the negotiation too. Hope that helps.

Sorry I reckon between 210 as a flat weekly rate for during school term and on holidays would be about right.

I am a Childminder with excellent references and years of experience etc. and I am Charging 10 e /hr full time and 12 e/hr for part time - as you still need to make a living from that , and the family that I worked for didnt had a problem with that.
