Hi,
I am just wondering what people´s experience is of having a childminder in their own home? I am currently looking for work in Cork and when I tell people my rate is €10ph I am getting negative responses. Even at this when we discuss a weekly rate of say €350-400pw for sometimes nearly 50 hours people are surprised. I am confused to how this is the case. I understand people might not be able to afford that and that is fine however surely people shouldn´t expect a fully qualified, english speaking, responsible childminder to work for meagre wages either? Any thoughts?

i think the average national rate is 35 a day for one child or 50 for 2, hope that helps.

But that is for someone minding children in their own home where the minder can look after up to 5 children so they can charge less.

5e an hour?! That is absolutely crazy! No wonder so many people go on dole instead of working with people expecting to hire people on that money!
