Hi There, we are new to the area and have a daugther with a place in both of the above schools for next September. We don´t know what to do, do we pay and send her to a private school or do we go with a well recognised non fee paying secondary school. We are not from Ireland and seem to feel that in this area it is the "done deal" to send your child to a private school? I would love your thoughts and feedback on this please!!!!

There is no doubt that in south county dublin a high percentage of parents sent their children to private secondary schools though no doubt the ongoing recession will influence this pattern and already there are anecdotal stories of the non-fee paying schools being inundated with applications for next year.

I have been at open days for Sion Hill and was impressed by it. Sion Hill hadn´t the strongest reputation in the past but a new principal came on board a few years back and it seems to be growing in popularity. Know a few parents with their kids there who all seem happy with it. Class sizes are quite small.
Loreto Foxrock also a very popular school and seems to be well regarded.

Probably best for you to visit both schools and form your own impression. Check out what subjects and extra curricular activities both offer which may influence you depending on your daughters interests.

Good luck with your choice
