Can anyone give me an honest answer as to what would be considered a fair rate to pay for full time childminding ? I have been told 186 euro is the current recommended pay for a full time minder but I feel this is not true. The child minding will take place in the minders home.
I appreciate your responses.

Hi ellak,
Can you please tell me what hours you are talking when you say full time? I have a lady looking after my little girl from 8.30 to 4.30 Mon-Fri and i give her €9.50per hour as she really looks after my little girl with great care she also provides daily meal i.e breaky lucnh, much depends on the quality of care and the experience the childminder has really. really you would be looking to pay between €8-€10per hour depending on type care u require.

Thanks for response
Its full time care 4-5 days per week. the minder will provide meals . I will collect and drop off each day. I have no special requests apart from the minder takes good care of my child and ensure she takes time with her in terms of her development, this is basic child minding criteria.

Wow €9.50 an hour is a really good rate. The average rate in my area (and what I would charge myself) for fulltime care based on an 7-8 hour day is €35-€40 per day (€175-€200 for a five day week) or approximately €4.25-€4.50 per hour. That price includes all meals and snacks.

There is no way i would expect anybody to work for €4.50-€5.00 per hour doing childminding full time and provide meals i just dont think that would be fair, that is not even any where near mini min wage cause i know if it was the other way round and i was to mind a child as a job i would not work for that.

I know it´s not fair and it´s not near the minimum wage but that´s what the going rate is in my area of Kildare. Also you´ve got to remember that for most childminders this is cash in hand and the childminder will not be paying any tax on it. This is not illegal either as far as I know you can be exempt if earnings are less than €18,000.00 per year. If the childminder was to pay tax on it then yes the hourly rate would have to be doubled.

thanks again for response, I have to say I have been offered childming for 150 euro per week by a fully qualified child minder , the rates have dropped considerably due to the economy. The very valid point in all of this is that its cash in hand so although it may seem low when broken down to hourly rate its tax free , everyone else earning anything from 4000 k per year is subject to USC tax.
