Durrow Communications Ltd., is pleased to announce the availability of a new National Career Guidance resource, www.CareersPortal.ie.


    This site will provide a gateway to the most useful information available to those needing or providing career guidance.

    This site is a service to 2nd and 3rd level students, parents and guardians, career guidance professionals and job seekers and will be constantly updated with the latest career information.

    The site will include the following features;
    • A Career Exploration toolbox, which will help guide you towards the most suitable career, employment sector and educational courses that are available, has been provided.
    • The 30 most prominent Employment Sectors will be profiled. Information on the sectors will be provided including numbers of people employed, types of occupations available, skills shortages and outlook for the sector over the next number of years.
    • An Occupational Database will be available with over 500 occupations profiled which can be searched alphabetically, by employment sector or by your individual interests.
    • Organisations in each sector will be profiled. These profiles will include information on what the organizations does, where they are located, how many people they employ, what types of people they employ, what their recruitment policies and procedures are etc
    • Employees from these organisations will be interviewed and videoed and these will be available on the site.
    • A detailed educational database will be available, which will be searchable by Employment Sector, by Interests, by points and by location.
    • The most recent and relevant Labour Market information has been integrated into all sections of the resource.
    • An on-line Interest test has been provided free of charge - the CareersPortal Interest Profiler. This can be used by students and career seekers to help focus on career choice, and also suggests suitable CAO courses and occupations.
    • A summary 7 page Career Report can be printed directly from the site, free of charge, with the results from the interest profiler and with suitable career suggestions based on those results.
    • A CAO database has been created, which in turn is linked into the Qualifax database. All courses will be profiled and direct links to the college websites are available.
    • A CAO Wizard is also supplied. This is a tool to help select suitable CAO courses. Using information from your Interest Profile, your choice of Employment Sectors, your expected points, and your desired location etc. a list of courses is generated.

    Over the coming weeks and months, the site will be developed to include:

    * In-depth Employment Sector profiles
    * Additional organisation profiles
    * Additional Jobholder Interviews
    * Additional Jobholder Videos
