As Ireland’s largest Native Species Aquarium, we are the perfect location for school tours and workshops based around Ireland’s marine environment and biodiversity, sustainability, environmental awareness, care and ecology investigation. We cater for students of all ages, with options available for pre-school, primary, secondary and third level educational needs, online, in the aquarium, in school or on the shore.

We are located on the seafront in Salthill, within easy access to parking, food service providers and habitats to explore and study.

• Leaving Certificate Ecology study, covering the ecology element of the Biology syllabus. Can be carried out on the shore, in grassland or in woodland. • Junior Certificate Cycle content, on the Biological World, building blocks, systems and interactions, and sustainability.
• Tour of the aquarium
Tour of the aquarium with the option of adding on a workshop option including the following:
#1 Connections to the ocean - class and brainstorming tasks (can be carried out in the aquarium/online or in school)
#2 Animal Anatomy - types of marine life - squid dissection (can be carried out in the aquarium or in school)
#3 On the shore (life on the shore and marine litter tasks)
These workshops can be adapted for all class levels and a range of content can be added together for unique Transition Year Modules.
Each add-on includes an option of online prep or Q&A with the class through zoom before or after the visit.
For groups larger than 45 students, a self-guided option is available where guides will be situated at certain stations within the aquarium to answer any questions students may have.

Virtual School Tours:
Did you know we have a new ‘Virtual Aquarium Tour’ available for schools?
Through 6 engaging episodes we investigate a range of themes from Freshwater Habitats to Ocean Connections and Care. Each episode has a quiz to test the learner’s knowledge at the end. Free accompanying worksheets are available covering a range of cross curricular links, helping students build on what they have learned. These are available in English and As Geailge.
For just €40 your class can have access to all 6 episodes for one month plus an online Q&A session with one of our Education Team.
All our staff are highly experienced in the delivery of education workshops and fieldwork, Garda vetted and trained in child protection policy & practice. All staff has completed COVID 19 Safety Workshops.
