Ham Sandwich with Fruit & Yoghurt

Young children can be fussy about their food and with some kids the simpler the better. A ham sandwich with fruit and yoghurt can provide a nutritious lunch that most kids will enjoy.

The choice of bread for the sandwich is an important one. Some brands such as Goodness of Both (half white and half brown) can be an excellent choice. Many children shy away from brown bread but this bread looks almost white, yet contains 4% fibre as opposed to 1.8% fibre in traditional white bread.

Lean ham is a favourite of many, both adults and children, it contains good levels of protein and is an excellent source of vitamins and minerals. Older children will often be happy to have some salad or tomotoes or even a little cheese added to the sandwich for extra flavour.

Petits filous is a fromage frais made with fruit puree. It is a source of protein, vitamins and minerals such as calcium, all of which are crucial to the diet of young children.

A satsuma is a seedless, easy to peel, delicious fruit packed full of vitamin C.

Milk and water are the only two drinks recommended by oral health professionals and should be provided as often as possible as part of kids lunchboxes.
