Things to do with the kids this August Bank Holiday weekend




The August Bank Holiday in 2015 will be on the 3rd of August this year and, with the Summer coming to an end soon, it’s the perfect time to jump in the car with the kids and check out what’s happening around the country. We’ve combed the web for the best family events around Ireland that are suitable for all ages, enjoy!


Spraoi International Festival of Street Art

31 July - 2 August
Waterford
Free Entry

Make your way to Waterford this weekend with the family to experience this fantastic festival. The streets will be buzzing with energy as people gather to watch world class musicians, performers and street artists as they offer up some amazing spectacles and delights.

There is also mini festival specially designed for families and kids call SprÓg Childrens Festival. The kids will be enthralled with the science theme this year but be sure to pre-book your spot to avoid disappointment. National Steam Rally

02 - 03 Aug, 10am - 6pm each day

If you have any little steam engine enthusiasts in your family then this event is a must. The National Steam Rally will be jam packed with vintage exhibits, over 30 steam engine demos, sheepdog demonstrations, live music and much more. There will be trading stalls offering a wide range of crafts, such as jewellery and art. The kids will get a kick out of taking rides on the steam trains and will have endless amounts of fun at the carnival. There will also be the crowning of the Steam Queen to look forward to! Entry into this event will be €10 for adults, €5 for teens and free entry for kids. Facilities include free parking and picnic areas. Find out more about the National Steam Rally here.


Indiependence Music and Arts Festival

31 July - 3 Aug
Mitchelstown, Cork
For music loving families, Indiependence really is the all-rounder festival. With headlining acts such as Kodaline and Basement Jaxx, the experience is unmissable. The appeal of this festival, especially for families, is that they allow children under 12 to attend, with their parents, free of charge. They even go so far as to provide entertainment for the little ones with activities including Spray Art, Board Games, Jewellery making and much more.

Although their weekend tickets are sold out, you can still get hold of day tickets for Friday or Saturday on their website.


All-Ireland Dog Show

03 August, Shows start at 1pm
Roundstown, Connemara,

Who doesn’t love a good dog show? The All-Ireland Dog Show will be a great day out for all the family (including the pet dog!) this Bank Holiday Monday. With Sean-nós dancing, music, miniature ponies and, of course, lots of dogs, there will be plenty to keep the kids busy. There is even a prize for the Best Dressed so get the family spruced up and don’t forget to stick a dickie bow on the dog. Visit their Facebook page for more information.


Rock ‘n Roll Marathon

Dublin

For something a little quirky this weekend, head into the heart of Dublin for the Rock ‘n Roll Mini Marathon. You can expect a few Elvis, Queen and KISS fans take to the streets in their best Rock ‘n Roll rig outs to participate in this bizarre marriage of marathons and music! Get the whole family to dress up and take part in the 3K Family Fun Run where every participant will receive a medal. This event will provide tonnes of entertainment for all ages and there will even be a live concert to rock out to at the finish line.
