Good news for the new multi-denominational school scheduled to open in Castlebar in September 2016 - Mayo County Council this week gave its approval to use a council-owned building to provide accommodation for the school.
It is being proposed that Castlebar's old town council building in the centre of the town will be used for the school but planning approval has yet to be granted.
A derelict school building 9 kim from the town was orginally offered to the patron body Educate Together last August but this was rejected as Educate Together felt it was too remote a location to make it viable.
There are currently
11 primary schools within a 5 km radious of Castelbar town centre, all under the patronage of the Catholic Church.
