All three Teacher Unions, (INTO, ASTI and TUI) have today agreed to ballot for industrial action, including strike action, if the government does not meet their demands to reverse the recent changes to the priority listing for teachers within the vaccination programme.
The teachers unions are giving the Government until the summer break to put teachers back on the vaccine priority list. However the Unions are also demanding early vaccination within the overall cohort of education staff of pregnant teachers, those in higher risk categories and those who work in special schools, special classes and home school community liaison teachers.
Yesterday, Education Minister says that the decision to shift to an age-based vaccine roll-out is “not a value judgement on any given profession, it is simply science”.
