Crescent College Limerick rocket to success

Secondary school students from Crescent College Comprehensive in Limerick were  announced as winners of the 2014 ESERO Ireland CEIA CanSat competition at Birr Castle Co. Offaly.  The team will now go on to represent Ireland at the European CanSat final in Andoya Norway in June of this year.       

Six teams from schools across Ireland took part in this unique space project to create a CanSat a simulation of a real satellite which fits into the volume of a soft drinks can.

And they came 3rd!
"Secondary school students from Crescent College Comprehensive in Limerick today succeeded in achieving third place at the 2014 European CanSat Competition in Andya, Norway. Students from 14 countries across Europe participated in this unique European Space Agency (ESA) competition to build a CanSat - a simulation of a real satellite integrated within the volume of a soft drinks can which was then launched by rocket to a height of 1km."
