-------------------

Drimnagh Castle Primary School today played host to a visit from maths educator and TV and radio presenter Aoibhinn N Shilleabhin to celebrate their involvement in the Discover Primary Science and Maths (DPSM) Awards of Science and Maths Excellence. Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) hopes to present awards to over 500 schools this year. The deadline for registration is extended by a week so schools now have until Friday 28th March to register their interest to apply for an award on ww.primaryscience.ie.

Today pupils of Drimnagh Primary School showcased some of the work they are doing as part of the programme.  Hands-on DPSM classroom science and maths activities on show included second class pupils sharing their log of the emergent signs of Spring as part of their participation in Greenwave. Lever magnetism and biodiversity project displays from third fourth and fifth class as well K-nex (creative construction toys) Maths games and Scratch programming from fifth and sixth class pupils

Claire Melia DPSM Coordinator at Drimnagh Castle Primary School said The DPSM programme develops childrens confidence and enthusiasm for science and maths as concepts are broken down into manageable activities that facilitate learning in an enjoyable manner. Over the last number of years the Award of Science and Maths Excellence has given us something to work towards as a school and there is a real sense of achievement in meeting the five criteria while also achieving the objectives of the science and maths curriculum.
