From the commencement of the 2012/2013 school year, eligibility based on the CSR will cease for all new pupils entering primary schools.
Under the CSR (Central/Closed School Rule), where a primary school closed and amalgamated with another, pupils residing in the closed school area are currently eligible for free transport to the school of amalgamation even though they may reside less than 3.2kms (2 miles) from this school.
Where a number of schools closed and amalgamated into one new school, free transport is currently provided for eligible pupils residing not less than 1.6km (1 mile) from the new central school, this arrangement is reffered to as the Central School Rule.
From Sept 2011 eligible pupils currently availing of free school transport under the CSR who reside less than 3.2kms (2 miles) from their school of amalgamation will NOT be eligible for school transport.
From 2012 it may arise that siblings in a family may have school transport eligibility to different schools in instances where there is now a nearer open school than the school of amalgamation. :shout:

this rule is crazy!!!! my children are affected by this new ruling! its very unclear at present bus eireann is saying we may apply for a concessionary ticket at the cost of €200 and also saying that we are not eligible anymore!! most children on the bus will be paying €50 and there are available seats but we cant avail of it and even more unbelievable it passes our gate!!!!! if we had a medical card we would be exempt from the €50 but not the €200! can any one make sense of that?
