Constipation

Hi,
I have a 5 and a half year old who is on movicol for the last three years for chronic constipation. Every time I try to whine him off the sachets with plenty of fluids he gets constipated.
Has anyone got any experience with this problem and any advise how to reduce sachets. He is on 2 a day.
