Help!!! I am moving from the US to Ennis in a few months. My children are 6 and 9 and already started school here in the 1st and 3rd grade. I don´t know where to start looking for a school. Currently my children attend a priviate Catholic school so I am very particular about their education. What should I do??!!!

I´m afraid it is simply a case of phoning individual schools and asking about their application procedure. They will wish to know where exactly you will be living as most schools will give priority to those within their catchment area - I think (though not absolutely sure) that if you are coming from abroad and relocating there is an onus on the school (if it is a state funded school) within your catchment area to offer you a place if possible. You might check this with one of the Principals when you are ringing.

Good luck - hope you find somewhere that suits.

Hi Lori.

As a quick primer, check out these 2 pages. They´ll list the primary schools in & near Ennis, with their enrollment numbers, religous denomination, Dept of Education reports (where available). Plus some articles which might be of use. We´re hoping to have people post and let us know more about their local schools via these individual pages per school over time too.

I think http://www.daft.ie/ is the biggest online service for letting in Ireland. You could start by trying there.

Hi Lori. I moved from the States eight years ago. I chose to home educate my 4 children, who are now 15, 13, 9 and 7. We are very happy with the choice, not the least is we can instill our own values and religious beliefs. You can choose your own curriculum. Tricia

After going through the list, do I just start calling schools to see who has openings?
