thanks for that. I´ll let you know. It might be useful for other people who would prefer to opt out. The principal is an ex nun, so I have a feeling it may not go smoothly but I will give it a go as would rather he didn´t spend time on this subject.

HI all, I am new to the forum. My name is sarah and I live in Leitrim. My son is just about to start secondary school. It seems a great forum I have to say. I am after some advice...I couldnt see anything on it elsewhere, so here goes. We are not religious at all. I would like my son to opt out of religious education completely. Can I send a note in to the principal? on his first day saying that I dont want him to do RE and to do study instead? Advice pls, thanks.

Thanks for the reply. I have since found this website that is quite useful on the topic and seems to say you can opt out if you want, even if you might get a bit of hassle about it
