My son is entering 3rd yr home ec. I am wondering whether to get a sewing machine for home. He is unlikely to go on with the subject, my other son unlikely to take it up. I have a treadle machine myself which I ran up my curtains on but it does require a sort of ambidextrous quality to make it run which is proving off putting. Has anyone experience of home ec and/or ideas about whether It is a worthwhile investment for me in the longer term - I could perhaps more easily do my own alterations but how much would I ever use it I wonder? I have looked into second hand but am amazed there are none on gumtree or done deal.
