Our school quiz team has had a tremendous run of success in 2008. Kevin, Ross, David and Sean have won the Cork Credit Union Week Quiz (with 46 schools taking part from all over Cork). Following that , they won the Cork Area Final of the National Quiz in March and are representing Cork in the All-Ireland Finals. Later in March they won the National Parents´ Council Cork West Quiz with 57 teams involved. This is the second year in a row that Glasheen Boys´ has won all these inter-school competitions, so we are all extremely proud of our boys. A big well done to everyone involved!
Since the last entry, Glasheen Boys´ School has also been granted official Health Promoting School Status by the HSE and a Green Flag for our work on the Environment. These are just examples of the many interesting developments taking place.

2008 has been a super year so far for the school. As well as all of the above, the school won the inter school Sciath na Scol Finals in Pairc Ui Rinn in June, following a tremendous run of seven victories. This was followed by outstanding performances in Cork City Sports and a double victory for our 3rd and 4th Class boys in The Hurling By The Lough competition for local schools , also in June.
We have had very positive feedback from parents and had a most memorable Graduation Ceremony for our 6th Class Boys before they departed for Secondary school. We wish each one of our boys the very best for the future.

Just found this website. I went to your recent Christmas Concert to see my nephew who´s in first class. It was so enjoyable. Always heard great things about your school from my sister and other friends. It´s really bright and cheerful. Why weren´t schools like that when I was young??? Keep up the good work.

I´m a past pupil of this school and my sons will be attending in the next couple of years. We always called it Glasheen Boys but as young fellows, we knew that the official name was Scoil Mhuire Gan Smal. The name doesnt really matter. Its a great school.

I´d advise them to stick with the name Glasheen Boys cos thats the one everyone knows. I suppose they have to use the other name too if thats what on the Department of Education records.

This is my old alma mater. So proud to be a past pupil that I´m sending my son there too. When I was in school in Glasheen we always called it Glasheen Boys School but we were always aware of the other name being scoil mhuire gan smal. Everybody knows the school as Glasheen Boys so if I was them, I´d stick with that name. I suppose they have to use both names though, as the Department of Education probably uses the less well known name. Its a great school, whichever name they use. Johno

This school is also known as Glasheen Boys School although its called Scoil Mhuire Gan Smal here. Lots of people never heard that name and don´t realise its the same school. I notice that John O´Donovan made this point some months ago.

I like the photo but I don´t think it even does the school justice. There are two buildings and this is the older one. All the school has large bright classrooms with big windows that you can´t see in this photo. It a school that is very well maintained also.

Glasheen has always been a super school. Everyone I hear whose kids are there speak really highly of the staff and all the good things that are going on there. It´s really handy too how the Boys and Girls schools are together.

Yeah. I´m thrilled with the school as my little boy started there at the end of August. Everybody comments on how clean, bright and cheerful the place is. The two Junior infant teachers are gorgeous.
