Our first child is nearly 5 months old now and we were wondering if anybody knows at what point we should ´sign him up´ in a local school? We would also appeciate comments on the quality of the schools. We are in Midleton, Co. Cork.

Hi,
I know a lot of schools in my area only allow ´pre-enrollment´ from the childs second birthday. And then places are allocated on a first come first served basis.
We´re in Dundrum, Dublin.

I would contact the school your interested in and find out what their enrollment policy is. some schools don´t allow you to enroll till the year before they are going to attend. then it is usually a lottery.
