So the Leaving and Junior Cert State Examinations have officially commenced today! Here are some interesting facts and figures concerning the enormity of the Leaving and Junior Cert exams!

117, 453 - The number of candidates sitting state examinations; 59,522 at Junior Certificate, 55,044 at Leaving Certificate and 2,887 at Leaving Cert Apllied Programme.

106 - The number of subjects that will be examed, 90 curricular and 16 non-curricular

578 - the number of people invovled in drafting, setting and translating 506 different test instruments, including oral tests, aural recordings, practical briefs, project briefs, portfolio and coursework items as well as the written examination papers

4 Million - The number of Examination papers

50 Million - The number of A4 pages used in making the exam papers

90,000 - The number of Leaving Cert and Leaving Cert Applied oral test recordings

5,055 - The number of superintendents overseeing at examination centres

19,806 - The number of students with individual needs to access the examination centres

10,223 - The number of special examination centres as a result

6,709 - The number of examiners correcting, comprised of 4,307 written examiners, 1,146 oral examiners and 1,256 practical examiners

1.9 Million - The number of individual test items submitted to the State Examinations including written exams, art and craftwork pieces, project and practical pieces etc.

>1 Million - The number of individual grades awarding the 117,453 exam candidates with examination results

360,000 - The number of marked scripts sent to schools for viewing

14,249 - The number of appeals processed at Leaving and Junior Certificate
