A variety of concert programmes taking place around primary schools in Ireland has helped encouraged kids activities in music, it has been suggested.
An article in the Irish Times by Conor Power looked at the various schemes which are being held at education establishments across the country, bringing renowned musicians to play in front of kids so that they can develop their interests.
He used the Music in Schools programme in County Cork as an example, which sees classical musicians visit around 30 schools in the area throughout November and December.
They play pieces in front of the kids for an hour, before taking questions from the youngsters and teaching them more about their instruments.
Fiddle player Matt Cranitch told the publication: "We try to get them involved with humming the notes of the drones and they love joining in like that."
Music has been part of the curriculum in primary schools in Ireland since September 2005 to allow kids to become involved in "moving,
dancing, illustrating, story telling and making drama".
